Parent Teacher Association

The SLMS PTA is already hard at work to make the 2017-18 school year one of the best!  Board members and committee members are working hard on starting the year off right.  Here are your elected PTA officers:

The vision of PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality, and the purpose is to promote the welfare of children and youth through continuous work with the schools and community.  PTA also has a role in advocating for laws that secure the care and protection of children and youth.  Joining PTA helps us provide many great things for the community and the students and staff at Summit Lakes.  We couldn’t do this without your support!  Listed below are some of the things PTA has sponsored and/or supported throughout the year:

SLMS PTA has many opportunities for you to become involved in our school.  Some of the volunteer opportunities are listed below.


Description Approximate Date/Time Involved

Hospitality and staff appreciation

•Work with a team to periodically host luncheons or create small gifts for the SLMS staff.
•Send in desserts or food for luncheons as needed.
3-4 events per year
School picture day •Ensure student information is accurate on the card.
•Assist the photographer as requested.
August (two-hour shift)
Magazine sales •Assist magazine sales representative counting and reconciling money and magazine orders. two-week period in August/September
(approximately two hours per day)
DARE/Red Ribbon Week •Work with DARE officer and staff to carry out Red Ribbon Week activities.
•Donate items as requested.
one-week period in October
(about 30 minutes as students arrive)
Health Fair •Assist healthcare professionals with various health screening tests for 8th grade students. November (2 three-hour shifts)
Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation events •Create (or arrange for) two baskets to be auctioned off during the year. 1 in the fall/1 in the spring
Dances •Volunteer at refreshment tables.  Mix and pour punch, lemonade, and water.  Restock snacks.
•Donate snacks, drinks, supplies.
5 times per year
(two- or three-hour shift)
Reflections •Encourage and recognize student participation
•Build a team to judge the entries
•Submit the winning entries to the MO PTA
