Dr. Mitchell joined the Summit Lakes school community as principal in 2017. During his 28 year career in education, Dr. Mitchell has served as an elementary and middle school teacher, middle school assistant principal, and 20 years as a middle school building principal.
Dr. Mitchell received his BSED from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Masters and Specialist degrees in School Administration from the University of Central Missouri, and completed his Doctorate in Education Leadership from William Woods University.
Building and sustaining relationships with students, parents, and staff has become a cornerstone of Dr. Mitchell’s administrative beliefs. Throughout his career, he has led with the focus on fostering a school culture that meets the academic and social, and emotional needs that are so important to the success of middle school students, not only in the classroom but also in life.

Mr. Barger has been an administrator at Summit Lakes Middle School since 2019. He has worked in five Kansas City area school districts beginning his career as a high school business/technology classroom teacher and coach. In addition, Mr. Barger has provided teacher professional development focused on instructional technology as an instructional technology facilitator, technology coordinator, and instructional technology specialist. As an adjunct professor, he has taught graduate courses for several local universities that focus on teaching educators about integrating technology into the classroom.

Mrs. Medrano is originally from Los Angeles, California. In 2010, she and her family moved to the Kansas City area. Mrs. Medrano has 18 years of classroom work experience working at Lee’s Summit Elementary, Woodland Elementary, and a lead teacher in Raytown C-2 School District and in California, and as an Online Academy Teacher. This experience has allowed her the opportunity to be an instructional leader. Mrs. Medrano serves as a Mentor Educator and Ambassador within the district as well as works closely with teachers throughout the Great KC Area. The work experience in the Kansas City area and Los Angeles County has allowed her the opportunity to work with numerous individuals from various backgrounds, with various learning and developmental needs. Mrs. Medrano is currently the Vice-Chairperson of the City of Lee’s Summit Human Relations Commission. Mrs. Medrano also works closely with ALAS and LatinX Education Collaborative, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing and retaining the number of quality LatinX education professionals in K-12. She was recently recognized as the 2020 Educator of the Year through LEC for her work in advocating, teaching, and working for the inclusion of all children.
