|David Mitchell, Ed.S.
Mr. Mitchell joined the Summit Lakes school community as principal in 2017. During his 28 year career in education, Mr. Mitchell has served as an elementary and middle school teacher, middle school assistant principal, and 20 years as a middle school building principal.
Mr. Mitchell received his BSED from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Masters and Specialist degrees in School Administration from the University of Central Missouri, and currently is completing his Doctorate in Education Leadership from William Woods University.
Building and sustaining relationships with students, parents, and staff has become a cornerstone of Mr. Mitchell’s administrative beliefs. Throughout his career, he has led with the focus on fostering a school culture that meets the academic and social and emotional needs that are so important to the success of middle school students, not only in the classroom but also in life.
Mr. Mitchell is honored to be a part of the SLMS Falcon family!
|Lee Barger, Ed.S.
Assistant Principal, Activities Director
Ed.S. – K-12 Educational Leadership – Arkansas State MAT – Instructional Technology – Webster University B.S.Ed. – Business Education – Missouri State
Mr. Barger has been an administrator at Summit Lakes Middle School since 2019. He has worked in five Kansas City area school districts beginning his career as a high school business/technology classroom teacher and coach. In addition, Mr. Barger has provided teacher professional development focused on instructional technology as an instructional technology facilitator, technology coordinator, and instructional technology specialist. As an adjunct professor, he has taught graduate courses for several local universities that focus on teaching educators about integrating technology into the classroom.

|Whitney Morehead, Ed.D.
Dr. Whitney Morehead has been an administrator at Summit Lakes Middle School since 2011. She assists with student services, magazine sales, community engagement, special education, and literacy. She also is the administrative advisor for the homeroom program and yearbook.
Dr. Morehead earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from St. Louis University in 2015 and a Specialist Degree in Secondary Administration from the University of Central Missouri in 2010. In 2005, she earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Central Missouri. In 2003, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Truman State University.
Dr. Morehead began her educational career at Summit Lakes Middle School in 2004. Before administration, she served as an In-School Suspension supervisor, study skills teacher, Speech and Theatre teacher, and English Language Arts teacher. In addition, Dr. Morehead was the head varsity softball coach for Lee’s Summit West High School.
